My Scholarship Journey – Teo Zi Lin

What made you apply for this scholarship?
I applied for this scholarship because I wanted to help ease the financial burden on my dad, who is the sole breadwinner of the family. My elder sister has just finished her university education at Global SIM, and now it is my turn to enter university. It will be a toll on my dad if he has to pay for my university education as well.

How did you hear about this scholarship?
I heard about this scholarship during a Scholarship Application Clinic held in Ngee Ann Polytechnic as part of The Christieara Programme.

How did this scholarship help you in your studies?
It helped me to stay motivated because as a scholar, I have to meet the expectations by the scholarship sponsors and the scholarship management. Also, I have to be a good role model for my peers. In addition, the scholarship helped me to focus on my schoolwork without having to worry about school fees or living expenses.

Tell us about the scholarship interview and selection process. What was it that clinched the scholarship for you?
The scholarship interview was enjoyable, because it was like a casual chat between the interviewers and me. The selection process consisted of two interviews held by SPD and ABP. Besides my academic achievements, I think being myself was what clinched the scholarship for me.

Be yourself and be honest. Giving politically-correct or cookie-cutter answers will not help.

What advice do you have for students who wish to apply for scholarship in general?
During the interviews, be yourself and be honest. Giving politically-correct or cookie-cutter answers will not help.

So what are you busy with these days?
I had been busy job-hunting and going for interviews after I submitted my honours thesis in November 2019. After conferring from NUS in January 2020, I clinched a job and just started my role as a Business & Integration Arch Analyst with Accenture. Things have been a little quiet (working from home, attending online courses/training) since I just integrated into the company amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. However, I expect to get onboard projects and be busy soon, striving towards continuous learning on the job while pursuing professional and personal development.
