Janice Liu, 2nd year student from the ESSEC Global BBA programme, has lived in Taiwan and Singapore, and completed high school education at the Singapore American School.
Name: Janice Liu
Name of institution: ESSEC Business School
Course of study: Global BBA programme

Why did you choose to pursue the ESSEC Global BBA?
There are several factors that led me to pursue the ESSEC Global BBA. One of the main reasons is the programme’s diversity and international exposure. Growing up, I’ve always been in an international environment, and I loved that. I've come to realise that being immersed in an international environment has become a big part of who I am and how I want to seek growth. I enjoy how diverse the school is, with students coming from different backgrounds. The most attractive point about the BBA programme is that I get to study in three different campuses before graduating — ESSEC Asia Pacific, ESSEC Cergy, and an exchange programme in a partner school of my choice. I also have the opportunity to master four different languages (English, Chinese, French, and Japanese) before graduating.

How did you hear about ESSEC Business School and its programmes?
I was looking for college options in Singapore, and I came across ESSEC. Later, I found out more from an ESSEC representative during my high school’s college fair. I’ve never imagined myself studying in a French school before, but after further research, I decided that it would be a one-of-a-kind college experience. And that’s when I decided to enrol. I am loving the programme so far!

What is the best thing about studying in ESSEC?
I think one of the best parts about studying in ESSEC is its focus on providing hands-on experience. ESSEC believes in ‘learning by doing’. As a part of the programme, I have to do a 3-month internship after the end of the first year. I also have to do a 6-month internship either in my 3rd or 4th year. These hands-on experiences, both in and out of the classroom, grant me the opportunity to apply textbook concepts that I’ve learned in class in a real-world setting. I believe that such a transition represents a significant component of business learning. In addition, our career services team often organises networking sessions and professional talks, allowing students to connect with industry professionals from various business sectors and fields.

What has been the most interesting aspect of your learning journey?
It’s interesting to see how much I’ve grown personally and professionally in just one year! When I first enrolled in the school, my mindset was rather narrow — I told myself to just focus on doing well in classes. Since then, I have been thinking about my future and the work disciplines which I truly enjoy.
