The Bachelor in International Relations is a hands-on, practical and comprehensive programme that prepares students for a career in the international public and private sectors. Drawing on the expertise of IE School of International Relations, a member of the exclusive Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA), students will learn in a unique global-leader shaping environment to engage and drive change in complex, cross-border economic, political and social situations.
IE School of International Relations offers programmes both at an undergraduate and graduate level. The full-time programmes are offered entirely in English to train internationally oriented students for successful multi-sector careers.
You can study the Bachelor in International Relations in Segovia and Madrid. If you decide to start in Segovia, you will spend Year One and Two at the campus in Segovia, before moving to Madrid for Year Three and Four. If you start the programme in Madrid, however, you will spend all four years of the programme in the Spanish capital.

Course Outline
The course combines a multidisciplinary approach to professional education with the application of theory to practical issues in global affairs.
First Year
Your first year will begin with a broad introduction to international relations as a whole. You will become acquainted with the main eras and events that have shaped world history since the 16th century. You will be provided with the methodological and practical tools to understand and evaluate arguments about contentious issues in international affairs, and you will also be given the opportunity to complete an internship, contribute in one of the many IE labs, or both.
Through the IE Module, you will learn the dynamics, abilities and attitudes that will help you to lead people. By the end of the year, you will be able to apply economic theories to your daily work, and understand important social and political phenomena, as well as different forms of international governance and organisations.
Second Year
In your second year, you will continue to deepen your understanding of international relations from the perspectives of international law and international political economics. You will also start looking into the world of NGOs and learning about international development and aid. You will also be exposed to a wide array of tools and methodological approaches that political scientists use. By the end of the year you will be more confident discussing scholarly articles and embarking on your own research projects. In order to practice and apply what you’ve learned, you will be able to join an IE lab or complete an internship.
Third Year
During your third year, you will focus on topics such as international trade, macroeconomics, international finance, multinational corporations, and human rights and their implications for international development. You will deepen your knowledge about broad organisations such as the UN, but also about specialised institutions, such as NATO, WTO, the IMF and the International Criminal Court. You will continue developing your organisational skills and studying peace and conflict resolution to strengthen your most important leadership competencies. This year you will be required to choose an exchange programme with one of our prestigious partner institutions around the world.
Fourth Year
Your fourth and last year is mainly focused on your final project, where you will apply all of the knowledge gained throughout your subjects, internships, IE Labs, and exchange programmes. You will keep on improving your language skills, and you will be able to specialise in the area of your interest by choosing a concentration with a set of electives.
- Development Studies & Social Entrepreneurship: Through a breadth of knowledge across disciplines, this concentration provides you with a deep and holistic understanding of all the dimensions of development (social, political, economic, etc) and social entrepreneurship.
- Public Policy Analysis: This concentration prepares students to broadly understand the nature of policy-making processes and tools.
- Geopolitics & Global Security: This concentration is designed for students who want to take part in the solutions of the new geopolitical challenges and complex global conflicts.
- International Business: Students who pursue this concentration obtain a breadth of knowledge about how business are done at an international scale: from how they start to how they should be managed, from how regulations and cultural context affects companies and trade to how they can grow.
Course Outcome
Once you finish your degree, you’ll be ready to develop your career in a wide range of areas. Whether you are inspired by international organisations, consulting, human resources, or managing international humanitarian and development projects, as an IE international relations graduate, you will be more than prepared to use your expertise to make a positive impact in your field and perhaps beyond.
